EMI + Bastille Virtual Concert

Client

EMI Music, Epic Games

Scope

Experience Design, Art Direction, Interactive Narrative

A virtual reality album launch experience combining cyberpunk worldbuilding, spatial storytelling, and interactive concert design.

The Project

VML partnered with EMI Music and the band Bastille to explore the future of live music through an immersive VR album launch experience inspired by Bastille’s concept album Give Me The Future. The project combined virtual production, Unreal Engine environments, interactive concert mechanics, and cinematic worldbuilding into a surreal sci-fi experience designed for Meta Quest VR headset.

The experience transported viewers into a dystopian futuristic city where Bastille performed across giant holographic billboards towering above neon skylines and dancing digital crowds. As the concert progressed, users traveled through multiple reactive environments inspired by cyberpunk films, retro-futurist sci-fi, and surreal desert wastelands filled with hidden easter eggs and references to music and science fiction culture.

My role

I helped shape the creative vision and immersive UX direction for the experience through:

I worked closely with Unreal Engine developers, 3D artists, motion designers, and production teams to help define the visual language and interaction systems for the project.

Since VR experiences are still an emerging medium, rapid concepting and visualization became a critical part of the process. I created dozens of sketches, storyboards, and prototypes to quickly communicate ideas and align creative, technical, and client teams around a shared vision.

The Outcome

The final high-fidelity prototype successfully demonstrated how VR concerts could evolve into fully spatial entertainment experiences blending music, storytelling, interaction, and cinematic worldbuilding.

For me personally, the project was a great opportunity to combine UX design, illustration, storytelling, concept art, motion thinking, and speculative futurism into a single immersive creative system.
